Today we leave
Lucca to drive to Rome to drop off our car and spend three days before flying
home on Tuesday. Today is a very sad day
for us. We have come to Lucca four times in the past six years and each time we
have been mesmerized by its beauty and charm. People ask us “why do you keep
going back to Lucca?” It’s very hard to put into words the feeling we have when
we are here. It is so special. The narrow, quaint streets, the piazzas, the
churches, the restaurants and cafes and the wall are all so charming and give
us such a sense of peace, joy and total relaxation; that we want to return. There are
so many things we love about Lucca. It’s the perfect place to park yourself and
experience the Tuscan life around you. Here are just a few pictures of that
life.
The wall is so unique and such an integral part of life in Lucca
We tried to walk it every day
Lucca has some incredible architecture
Everywhere you look you see such beautiful buildings
We really enjoyed eating breakfast and lunch on our terrace
There are so many good restaurants in Lucca.
One of our favourites is Rusticanella, which serves traditional Tuscan fare
Or Buca di San Antonio where had out farewell dinner last night
The churches are spectacular and are filled with the beautiful art work
The carousel in Piazza Napoleone was a favourite with the children
We enjoyed so many terrific lunches sitting outside in the sun during our travels
... and drinks in the amphitheatre
There are so many historical places to visit in Tuscany
We went to our favourite cafe, Moka Bar, for our twice daily fix of cappuccino
We loved the Puccini concerts put on in Lucca
...and finally we loved the wine of Tuscany
