We continued our drive up the east coast
of Italy, paralleling the Adriatic Sea, to San Marino. San Marino is one of the
world’s oldest republics and the only surviving Italian city state. It is a very
small country that sits on top of Mount Titano. The old town is very picturesque
and well maintained. There is also lots of shopping as the economy here is
driven mainly by tourism, along with banking and wine production. We have a beautiful room in the Grand Hotel,
San Marino with a balcony and the views of the countryside are spectacular. Off
to Padua tomorrow.
It was a bit hazy when we arrived,so it was difficult to get a clear view of the countryside
But next morning it was very clear and the view was spectacular

The streets were very quaint
The Basilica of Saint Marinus, the patron Saint of San Marino
Lots of stores for shopping. Fortunately most were closed for siesta time
Of course, we had yet another fantastic lunch sitting outside in 18 degree weather.
The old castle and tower sits at the highest point of the mountain
The Public Palace is the home of the government of San Marino
There were several black limos with San Marino license plates parked there.
