Wednesday Mar 4th – You say Padova, I say Padua

We arrived in Padua (or Padova as it is also called) just before noon. It is another relatively unknown gem being overshadowed by more famous city states like Venice & Bologna.  Padua has an amazing history and is full of some incredible art (like Giotto’s famous fresco).  It’s also the home of Saint Anthony and he is buried in a shrine within a very large and beautiful church. There is also a huge basilica sitting on the Prato del Valle, a huge square with several large Romanesque statues around a central park-like space.

The Merchants common hall is a huge building

The chapel that holds the Giotto fresco is now a humidity controlled environment
We weren't allowed to take photos of the fresco, so this is a photo of the brochure.
