Sunday Mar 1st - Salerno

On Saturday we picked up our car and drove up the coast to Salerno. It is a beautiful city on the Mediterranean with mountains behind.  It is a real hidden gem. There are many old and beautiful buildings, with a wide pedestrian walkway leading into the old town. There is also an incredible waterfront promenade that was packed today with families strolling in sunny, 16 degree weather. There are also many excellent restaurants located around the city, so we continue to enjoy many culinary experiences. On Monday we are off to San Marino, the last remaining principality in Italy.  We will night over in Pescara on the way.

Crossing the Straights of Messina on the ferry from Sicily
View from our B&B room balcony
The main pedestrian way leading to the "old town"

 The Duomo of Salerno

The crypt under the main alter was covered in mosaics.
Walking the promenade at dusk
Puppet show on the waterfront promenade at night
Many beautiful buildings all lit up at night
Walking the street at night with thousands of people
The waterfront promenade on a very warm sunny day

A great place to "people watch"
 A fabulous waterfront

 The Gardens of Villa Comunale

Back ally life is very picturesque

View of Salerno from on top

In the Garden of Minerva - not very impressive

Another great lunch in an outdoor cafe
