We are back in
Lucca for our 4th time. It’s like coming home to us. Lucca is our
favourite city in Italy. It is a walled city with several large piazzas,
beautiful old buildings, quaint streets, great restaurants and friendly people.
We are relaxing for a few days before venturing out on some day trips around
the Tuscan countryside. We are staying in the Apartment Arancio (http://destinationlucca.com/),
where we stayed the very first time we came to Lucca in 2009. It is right in the centre of the city. One of our favourite things to do in Lucca is
to “walk the wall”, followed by lunch on our terrace.
The wall is very wide with a grand promenade that goes 4.2 km around the city
The wall celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2013 - so it's very old.
Yes, Spring has sprung and the wild flowers are out
There is lots to see from the wall; like the palace gardens
...and statues
...and beautiful women
....and restaurants
...and restored buildings
...and old ruins
It got very warm during our walk, so we had to peel off our jackets
We ended up sitting in the warm sun having lunch on our terrace
