Today, the four of us were officially ordained as Master
Chefs by Loredana Crisafi, Head Chef of the Myda Cooking School (http://www.mydaeventi.com/) and her
assistant Dominico. We arranged for cooking
lessons in our apartment to learn how to cook Sicilian food. It was an amazing
experience that will be a highlight of our trip. We spent 4 ½ hours preparing
and eating several typical Sicilian dishes. Our menu included:
- Arancini di Riso (rice balls stuffed with cheese)
- Caponatina Leggera (vegetable ragout)
- Fresh Pasta with Sicilian Pesto (garlic, tomatoes, almonds & basil)
- Mackerel Fillets (seasoned fish cooked in Beer)
- Cannoli Siciliani (Cannoli tubes stuffed with Chocolate Cream)
- Crostata di Frutta (Shortbread and custard cream tarte with strawberries)
-
Lots of Prosecco and Red Wine
Loredana was very good at explaining what each dish was
and how we were to help prepare it. We worked hard trying to earn our chef hats
and had lots of fun doing it. It was memorable night!
